'Tailored for Scotland' by Deirdre Kinloch Anderson preview in 'The Scotsman'

'Tailored for Scotland' by Deirdre Kinloch Anderson had a sneak preview in The Scotsman. The new book was published by Waverley Books on 10 September. The book, bound in genuine tartan cloth, tells the story of the company from its foundation to the present day. The book is a wonderful, fastidious document on Scottish history, tartan, costume, military uniform and the inside story of the ups and downs of a family company.

Happy Customer reviews on Waverley's Tartan Notebooks

Hello from everyone at Waverley.

Coping and facing fears in a small space - thoughts from Sue Reid Sexton, author of 'Writing on the Road: Campervan Love and the Joy of Solitude''

Sue Reid Sexton has written some of her books in a tiny campervan. She drives to remote spaces to be alone, and to focus on her writing. That said, she is no stranger to fear. In her book, 'Writing on the Road: Campervan Love and the Joy of Solitude', Sue discusses throughout her book: how to challenge yourself, how to cope with fear and isolation, and how to manage anxiety, among other things.

What is a ‘commonplace’ notebook?

Mince pies banned? Make your own with this recipe!

When mince pies get banned, how do those who love them, cope? Well, a simple solution is just to make your own. We are resourceful canny folk. If we could get together with family who went before, it would be fascinating to hear about the years when Christmas was banned in Scotland; and the tuts uttered when jelly was used in a trifle (beginner's mistake...)  and to hear about ways around these trifles... Mince Pies Banned in Renfrewshire! Here is the antidote - a recipe from the Glasgow Cookery Book so you can make your own

Charles Kingsley used a Commonplace notebook

Part of our series on users of the Commonplace notebook, this note is about the British social reformer, Christian Socialist and writer Charles Kingsley. His best known popular work of the time is probably The Water Babies, but with over 40 novels, short stories and poems to his name, Kingsley packed in a prolific output in a short time. His secret? Passion, intellect, faith and his use of the commonplace notebook in which to gather his thoughts and ideas.
