In November 1786, Robert Burns arrived in Edinburgh to find a city at the height of the Scottish Enlightenment. It was an Edinburgh that was home to great philosophers, economists, engineers, scientists, writers and poets. Enterprise and industry were flourishing and Burns was to find himself thrust into the midst of this social and academic whirlpool which forever established him as a vital part of the Scottish Enlightenment. This book chronicles the places he visited and the brilliant, eccentric, but always fascinating people he met during his stay. Join authors Jerry Brannigan & John McShane with illustrator David Alexander as they present a side of Robert Burns you possibly didn’t know existed.
