W B Yeats - a biography by David Ross

William Butler Yeats (1865 - 1939) is considered to be one of the greatest poets of the twentieth century. A Symbolist, his poetry drew imagery from Celtic legend, from politics, from mysticism, and from Celtic legend, from politics, from mysticism, and from his life, particularly his unrequited love for the revolutionary Maud Gonne.

Yeats wrote many fine plays and was responsible for founding Dublin's Abbey Theatre. His plays were performed at the Abbey. He was made a Senator of the Irish Free State in 1922 and received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923.

This biography is engaging and captures the man and his work.
